The BlueCollarPC.Net Web Group

The BlueCollarPC.Net Website Group

Join the Discussion at our Website Help Group !

 MEMBERS AREA... visitors welcome !

Welcome.....  The BlueCollarPC.Net website now includes our own "Web Group" or website mailing list group for Members Only, discussion and help posting - give or get. Read below for full Group Information ! Membership is of course totally free, this is a non-commercial website and mailing list group. Our Web Group is for all joining members to get or give help. Computing safety themes concern adware and spyware and all the associated threats. This does not include virus discussions. That is a separate security issue not dealt with here. Also, light general computer knowledge is additional conversation - Tips and Tricks. Members may post all help items and issues concerning adware/spyware threats and others - identifying symptoms and problems caused by these threats, and most importantly clean removal of threats. We also except HiJackThis Logs for diagnosis and resolutions. Experience in using Anti-Ad/Spyware Software individual programs like Webroot, Ad-Aware, Trend Micro AntiSpyware and so on can be discussed with Tips and Tricks - although these programs are very good and self contained in operation. Through experience you will find to always search for complete removal instructions when a threat is identified by protection software. Quarantine and Deletion options with the best protection software does not always completely remove all items added by various Adware, Spyware, Malware and others including scumware, trojans, worms, data miners, dialers, and more. Why wait - join the Discussion today and get the help you need ! We accept hijack-this logs !

*****New - the SPF technolgy has been added January 2007 to stop any spoofed domain email. See details below in List Security features.

  Who may not join ?

Generally, there are many free email services which in security are called "disposable accounts" which now even include "disposable domains". The many free accounts (example: username @ 123freestuff-mars colony .com) have been a source of UCE - Unsolictied Commercial Email (Spam) - historically and will not be permitted. This is not a 'junk' group so that a 'junk' email account is not neccessary. About the last year or so (2007) the new "disposable domains" occurred whereby spammers will purchase inexpensive hosting services, set up a website that also includes up to 200 free email accounts, and start sending spam from them. The domain would then be closed by the spammer or even upon complaints - but the damage was done that could include phishing and so on. To conclude, any email account or domain account that is not easily recognized will not be allowed. For Yahoo users, you may wish to opt out of their use of "web beacons" - and see the information below. What are web beacons and why a threat ? Please click our webpage titled "Threats FAQ" on the tabs to the left. Thank you. (Note that antispyware and/or firewalls may block or remove web beacons).

Yahoo! Privacy Center - Web Beacons
http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/beacons/details.html
Brief: "HTML Mail * Yahoo!'s practice is to include web beacons in HTML-formatted email messages (messages that include graphics) that Yahoo!, or its agents, sends in order to determine which email messages were opened and to note whether a message was acted upon.
In general, any file served as part of a web page, including an ad banner, can act as a web beacon. Yahoo! may also include web beacons from within pages served by Yahoo! so that Yahoo!'s advertisers may receive auditing, research and reporting. "

Question: I only have a 250 entry address book, what if there are more members than that ?

Answer: There is only one address for posting and receiving to and from the group necessary for your Address Book ::: bcpcgroup@bluecollarpc.net . This is a full featured Mailing List which automatically inserts our mailing list "tag" which is simply - "[bcpcgroup]". The " [bcpcgroup] " tag insert precedes in every message subject line before the message subject by the member sender, which is distributed to all members only. Example Subject Line: "[bcpcgroup] Need Removal Help" ....For forged headers safety against possible spammers attempting to appear as a List Member (sending you a fake email with [bcpcgroup] inserted) when joining our List, simply post a message to the webgroup with "test post" as subject. When you receive your post back, you can then review message headers and copy them for later comparison of any "suspect email". Group posts show any member as 'Sender' and the webgroup address as the 'To:' address in all posts. NEW.... The "Sender Policy Framework" service has been added now to our list service which now prevents fake messages. More information in full below.

MEMBERS SPECIAL NOTE: If members wish to contact each other off-group be sure to ask for permission first at the group to establish contact permission, otherwise you will most likely be reported for Unsolicited Email. All Members are only agreeing to messages from " bcpcgroup@bluecollarpc.net " , not any other email address. Being a member does not establish contact permission with each individual member, but only with the Mailing List address. If any member sends email outside of the group it is Unsolicted Email that may be reported to their ISP Abuse teams / Customer Care for appropriate action per report. You may contact or direct in your complaint any request to the List Owner address of this mailing list at bcpcgroup-listowners@bluecollarpc.net  for any appropriate List Information. This is not one of the free commercial Groups where persons tend to do that inappropriately due to the inconsistency of "contact permission" of general major domo list functions.

Some List Features enabled:
*Guard archive (message digests). Archive access requests from unrecognized SENDERs will be rejected.
*Subscription requires confirmation by reply to a message sent to the subscription address.
*Unsubscribe requires confirmation by a reply to a message sent to the subscription address.
*Message and new member moderation. For moderated lists, all posts and membership requests are forwarded to moderators for approval.
*The subscriber list cannot be obtained.

SPF ADDED TO ALL DOMAINS - The SPF technology has been added to our Web Group mailing list (and all domain addresses). Details:

Sender Policy Framework (SPF, http://spf.pobox.com) is a mechanism for preventing sender forgery in SMTP transaction, thus allowing domain owners control over who may send mail from their domain.

If SPF mechanism results in a hit, its prefix value is used. The default prefix value is 'pass".
(Our Web Group is placed in "FAIL")
fail: the mail is a forgery, and you can reject it with confidence.
softfail: the message could be a forgery.
pass: the mail is not forged, but that doesn't mean it's legitimate.
neutral: The domain owner has explicitly stated that doesn't know whether the IP is authorized or not.

Digests: .....examples (for numbers in address command, substitute 1_10 for messages 1 through 10 and so on)

NOTE: Our List digest feature does allow receiving up to 100 posts in a single digest email message. However, it is recommended that you only request about 10 at a time. The size of a 100 message digest may trigger false positives with anti-virus protection with something like "Malformed container violation"  - or a simple error message stating it was too large.

{NOTE: Address contains dot ( . ) after 'get'.... webgroup-get.1_10   @bluecollarpc.net )

Examples:

To get messages 123 through 145 (a maximum of 100 per request), mail:
   <bcpcgroup-get.123_145@bluecollarpc.net>

To get an index with subject and author for messages 123-456, mail:
   <bcpcgroup-index.123_456@bluecollarpc.net>

To receive all messages with the same subject as message 12345, send an empty message to:
   <
bcpcgroup-thread.12345@bluecollarpc.net>

  Bouncing Members Inboxes:

A "bouncing" email is a returned email to sender generally for two reasons. One the address no longer exists (account deleted or discontinued) or more common - a full inbox temporarily. The following message is sent out automatically by our List service: (brief):

"Hi! This is the ezmlm program. I'm managing the
bcpcgroup@bluecollarpc.net mailing list.

I'm working for my owner, who can be reached
at
bcpcgroup-owner@bluecollarpc.net.

Messages to you from the webgroup mailing list seem to
have been bouncing. I've attached a copy of the first bounce
message I received.

If this message bounces too, I will send you a probe. If the probe bounces,
I will remove your address from the webgroup mailing list,
without further notice.

I've kept a list of which messages from the webgroup mailing list have
bounced from your address.

Copies of these messages may be in the archive.

To retrieve a set of messages...."

Coming Soon.....

This website and Member Mailing List has just been launched in October 2005 - so this is brand new. This webpage for membership will soon be dressed up some with graphics and gifs and so on to be a real welcome mat to new memberships. A decorative BlueCollarPC.net Web Group Monthly Newsletter is also being created for our Mailing List news that will contain new membership counts, changes, additional moderators and so on - anything to do with the Web Group itself, Members Area webpage updates.

NOTE: .....Our Web Group Mailing List is for Members Only and is moderated against Spam/UCE with Anti-Virus Protection. Since Memberships and Posts are moderated, there will be no Spam received at Member inboxes. If you are a spammer - there is no way in... don't waste my time and yours!

As List Owner I have several years of experience at popular Yahoo Groups and Smart Groups and also at Google Groups as a Group Owner and Creator. I have moved to the Website Mailing List or "Web Group" as personal choice over the other commercial free groups. There is obviously much more space at a website for displaying topical content and no commercialism involved. It is a Private Mailing List Group - as I have termed it, "Web Group" short for Website Mailing List Group.

NOTE: Members Only.... Any posts or commands to our List by non-members are automatically rejected by the List Service with the exception of FAQ and Info commands for visitors and members.
